Information on botulinum toxin procedures in Sakarya and Serdivan
In everyday language, a botulinum toxin procedure may be searched for as ‘botoks.’ This page discusses the active substance and the medical procedure, not a specific product brand.
Botulinum toxin type A is a prescription medical product used to temporarily reduce the movement of selected facial muscles. In aesthetic use, lines that become more visible with facial expression—most commonly on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes—are assessed. Eligibility is determined by considering the person’s facial anatomy, muscle movements, medical history, medications, and expectations together.
Effect and duration
Studies show that botulinum toxin type A may be effective compared with placebo for dynamic upper facial lines. The onset, degree, and duration of the effect vary from person to person; the result is not permanent. The same result is not expected in every person, and a definite outcome cannot be guaranteed before the procedure.
Possible adverse effects
Pain, redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site; headache; temporary asymmetry; and drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid may occur. The treatment area, dose, individual anatomy, and coexisting conditions may affect the risk profile. Symptoms such as unexpected generalized muscle weakness or difficulty swallowing or breathing require urgent medical assessment.
Who requires additional assessment?
An infection in the treatment area, known sensitivity to a product component, a history of neuromuscular disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, a bleeding tendency, and the use of medications that may interact with botulinum toxin should be discussed with the physician. Eligibility can be determined only after an examination and medical assessment.
