Electromagnetic Muscle Stimulation (EMSlim)

Information on electromagnetic muscle stimulation (EMSlim)

This device is intended to produce repeated contractions in targeted muscles using a high-intensity electromagnetic field. Body-contouring studies have reported changes in muscle thickness and certain regional measurements; however, the method is not a substitute for weight loss, obesity treatment, or exercise.

A 2024 systematic review stated that most available studies had short follow-up periods, that some studies found marginal or no benefit, and that high-quality data are still needed. Muscle soreness, temporary fatigue, cramping, and discomfort may occur. A pacemaker or other electronic implant, a metal implant, pregnancy, uncontrolled neurological disease, and active problems in the treatment area are assessed separately.

This text is intended for general information and is not personalized diagnostic or treatment advice. Eligibility is determined after a medical history and examination. Outcomes may vary from person to person; a specific result cannot be guaranteed.
